Day 1: Arrival in Leh
Upon your arrival at Leh airport, a representative will warmly welcome you and transfer you to your pre-booked accommodation. Check in, relax, and take the day to adjust to the high altitude. Acclimatization is crucial at these heights to ensure a comfortable and safe trip.
Day 2: Leh – Shey – Thiksey – Hemis
Today, embark on a sightseeing journey to explore the ancient monasteries around Leh:
Shey Gompa: Located approximately 15 km from Leh, Shey Gompa was once the summer residence of Ladakh’s rulers. The monastery is known for its giant copper-gilt statue of a seated Buddha.
Thiksey Gompa: Situated around 17 km from Leh, this monastery is closely connected to Shey and is one of the largest and most impressive gompas in Ladakh. The 12-story complex houses many items of Buddhist art, including stupas, statues, thangkas, wall paintings, and swords.
Hemis Monastery: Located about 45 km south of Leh, Hemis is one of the largest and wealthiest monasteries in Ladakh. It is renowned for its annual festival held in honor of Guru Padmasambhava.
Return to Leh in the evening and spend the night at your hotel.
Day 3: Leh – Nubra Valley (125 km / 5 hrs)
After breakfast, drive to Nubra Valley, passing through the renowned Khardung La Pass, the world’s highest motorable road at an altitude of 18,390 ft. Nubra Valley, also known as the “Valley of Flowers,” is located to the north of Leh and sits at an average elevation of about 10,000 ft.
Diskit Village: Explore the main settlement and administrative center of Nubra Valley. Diskit features a bustling market and the ancient Diskit Gompa, established in 1420 AD, which houses a 32-meter statue of Maitreya Buddha.
Hundar Village: Known for its picturesque surroundings, Hundar is home to a quaint monastery and the remnants of a fort. The village is also famous for its white sand dunes where you can enjoy a camel ride on the Bactrian camels.
Overnight stay at a camp or hotel in Nubra Valley.
Day 4: Nubra Valley – Leh (125 km / 5 hrs)
After breakfast, visit the Samstanling Monastery in Sumur village, which is renowned for its beautiful surroundings and rich collection of Buddhist scriptures and murals. After the visit, head back to Leh via Khardung La Pass, enjoying the breathtaking views along the way. Spend the night in Leh.
